Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to drawing up a proposal of intervention within the community of Ambato, in the province of Tungurahua in Ecuador. A research has been done with theoretical and methodological support, not only from a qualitative but also from a quantitative perspective. The design, planning and implementation of a needs evaluation has been carried out together with an analysis of the community resources, in order to foster the development of this community, based on greater participation, empowerment and sense of community. This research has been implemented taking into account the following three aspects: (1) The possibility of studying and reflecting the strengths and worries of the community, (2) The identification of the most important problems found within the community by means of a critical dialogue with key informants and small group discussions from the community, (3) The possibility of raising community awareness and mobilizing it through the proposal of intervention strategies. This thesis presents theoretical and empirical data supporting the idea that not only is it important to identify the communitys needs or problems in a meticulous way but also to develop a feasible plan which sets the objectives to be achieved and, according to them, the intervention strategies that should be carried out.
