Abstract

Our research work addresses the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in the face-to-face German teaching at Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas (EOI). The research combines both quantitative and qualitative methodology. In the quantitative phase, we collected information on the technological equipment of the EOI, the digital teaching competence of the face-to-face German teachers at this institution and the use they make of ICT in their educational practice. In the qualitative phase, we developed a case study consisting of a collaborative educational experience between two B1.2 face-to-face German class groups in two EOIs in different locations. For the aforementioned collaboration, we created a virtual learning community on a social network. In this way, we were able to verify that technology in combination with active methodologies has the potential to improve language teaching-learning processes and, therefore, to improve educational quality.
