Abstract

This is a multidisciplinary archaeometry approach to study pottery shards. Archaeometry techniques uses analysis from several disciplines (chemistry, geology, biology, etc.). In this case, it has focused on the shapeless ceramic fragments. It is due they have not recognizable typologies or decorations, and this is way they are only use in preliminary research about archaeological site. Three methodological approach have been carried out in order to study the fragments from Holocene site of El Portalón de Cueva Mayor (Atapuerca, Burgos) and develop information about ancient chronologies (Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age): paste analysis, archaeomagnetism and organic residue analysis. These aspects provide a rich information about the material, which allow us to draw near the manufacturing and use process.
