Abstract

This research springs from the analysis of a specific case study, La Rara troupe, a workgroup that meets periodically at the Department of Education and Cultural Action (DEAC) of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castile and León (MUSAC), located in the city of León. The group is comprised of people who share an interest in mental health, whether directly (people diagnosed and/or institutionalized), or indirectly (non-diagnosed people but interested in the subjects discussed in the workshop). Audiovisual means are used as a communication tool and to create alternate narratives emerging from the self-representation and the use of the first person. The objective of this research is to analyse the work progress from its beginnings in February 2012, until now, May 2015, using the methodological perspectives of A/r/ tography and socio-praxis, to reveal the operational connections that make possible the transformation of an audiovisual workshop space into the collaborative organization as an artistic group that could be placed under the scope of performance art. Therefore, this research contributes with data and critical reflections that can help build a narrative about the collaborative artistic practices in their intersection with the critical pedagogies, and offers a framework for placing them amongst their diverse genealogies and their possible future developments.
