My research, which has been entitled “School Dispersion: a shady zone”, aims to analyze an important and valid approach on school dispersion at some of the High Schools of Mazara del Vallo where I live and work as professor. This dissertation focuses its attention especially on variabilities due to: the location of schools; gender differences; social and cultural differences, differences among first two years and last three years of Italian schools. In particular, this dissertation aims to help schools in order to control dispersion at schools and ensure important results. Especially in Italy, dispersion at schools seems to have begun since the 80s by the name of deadly schools.Nevertheless, although there are several publications and researches about this issue, it appears to become difficult to give a precise definition of this problem in Italy especially because of the existence of too much variabilities and because of too much differences among Italan schools. As a matter of fact, it does not seem possible to offer a precise definition of dispersion at schools. Notwithstanding this, the mondial organization UNESCO has defined the problem as something which has appeared to disturb Education at schools and its normal activities (Morgnani E., 1998). In addition, the Italian writer Besozzi has given another definition: according to him, then, dispersion at schools appears to involve rejections, repeatings, abandonments, social, economical and cultural discomforts at schools at any levels and time (M.I.U.R. 2010). Finally, it is possible to define dispersion at schools such as any possible obstacle during education at schools: variabilities, social phenomena, cultural phenomena, economical phenomena. Especially in Mazara del Vallo, this event appears to become a big problem come to no end notwithstanding the numbers and numbers of projects born to fix it in some places of the town. My dissertation aims to offer schools several elements to schools in order to resolve this important problem and fix it, as far as possible, to enlight the very shady zone where dispersion was born.
