Resum

Context: The definition of the concept attitude can be understood as a disposition or a preparation to act in a certain way in precedence to other, depending on the experience we have of the situation which we want to face. Objective: The knowledge of the factors that influence attitudes toward statistics and research, and the validation of ATR and SATS 28. Methods: A sample of 515 students attending health courses in Coimbra was studied through the administration of SATS 28 and ATR, instruments that measure attitudes toward statistics and research. The administration was held in digital online format. Results: The representative sample refers to mainly female students ranging in age up to 22 and represents 61% of the total sample. It was revealed that the dimension difficulty has a statistical significant relationship with the cognitive and affect dimension, and that the experience in disciplines connected with statistics present a weak statistical correlation with the same although a moderated one between value usefulness and expectation of using statistics. Furthermore, attitudes toward statistics are not influenced by gender, the attended course as well as the attended core modules do not influence attitudes regarding statistics or research. Attitudes toward statistics correlate with attitudes vis-à-vis research in all dimensions. Finally, SATS 28 and ATR presented good internal consistency to the studied sample.
