Résumé
This research is about critical meaningful learning of the concept of gene among undergraduate students at the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador, Instituto Pedagógico de Caracas, Venezuela. The gene concept is complex, essential, and is involved in most of biological knowledge; its learning requires to know its structure, types, ways of expressiom, functions and biological process in which it is implicated, in addition to its history and epistemology. Therefore, gene learning is very difficult to the majority of the students of basic education and undergraduate level. The knowledge about gene as biological information, with different ways of expression, is related to several functions of the living systems. Its knowledge implies understanding that its meaning is not the same in all the biological fields and also that it has changed along history of the science. From these findings, new studies are being planned attempting to show the impact of this research in the performance of the educational practices of some participants and to advise master's research in biology education with teachers who comprised the study group, and on the work in a Masters of Teacher Degree in Educational Technology in order to facilitate critical meaningful learning in other areas of knowledge.
