The teenagers of San Cristobal develop their lives in a context of community violence, also impregnated with socio-economic and political difficulties which coupled with their individual characteristics, experiences of suffered victimization and the quality of their social relationships influence the assumption of beliefs and behaviors that support aggression, resulting in cognitive , emotional and behavioral consequences. Fear of crime is present in their lives, leading them to adopt behaviors that determine their development and mental health. However from a psychosocial and ecological approach, different associations between variables have been analyzed which serve as protective factors for adolescents within their developmental contexts. In this thesis individual, social, community and cultural factors that explain the main impacts of communal violence on adolescents are discussed; ways to approach these situations and develop prevention strategies are also identified within the family, high school and community.
