La política europea de Obama y las relaciones transatlánticas

Resumen

La relación transatlántica ha sido uno de los factores fundamentales de estabilidad y seguridad en el sistema internacional a lo largo del siglo xx. Durante el primer mandato presidencial de Barack Obama, en Estados Unidos se planteó un nuevo debate en torno a su vigencia que tiene poca relación con el que existía con anterioridad. De las discrepancias sobre la guerra de Irak y las críticas por el escaso gasto en defensa europeo, se ha pasado a cuestionar la relevancia europea por los cambios de poder en el sistema internacional con la aparición de nuevas potencias, por la pérdida de interés estratégico para las nuevas generaciones de líderes estadounidenses, y por la crisis económica que ha abierto un nuevo debate sobre el declive de Europa. Con todo, el análisis del discurso y la política exterior de la Administración Obama, parece llevar a concluir que la alianza entre ambos socios del Atlántico va a mantener su carácter estratégico a corto y medio plazo.
