Abstract
Engineering students do not generally achieve the expected knowledge after taking basic physics courses, even though they are supposed to be competent enough to solve specific problems and other exercises related to the subject. According to Vergnaud (1990), this fact is due to the students' conceptualization problems in the electromagnetism conceptual field. Therefore, we consider it appropriate to look into the level of conceptualization they have reached. Based on this theory, the responses given by three students when solving several problems on electromagnetism are analyzed. The results allow us to identify different conceptualization levels achieved by each student.
