Resumen

The excessive production of solid waste is an environmental global problem. In this sense the communities are looking for strategies to cope with acute shortage of landfill in the metropolitan area Caracas. One major solution to the scarcity of landfill space is recycling, which can divert millions of tons of waste away from landfills and reduce use of virgin resource. For this reason is important to know the factors that prompts or limited the recycling. The article report specific attitudes toward recycling that have the community of this institute. The attitudinal dimension of social representations was determined by using a semantic differential applied to students, teachers, administrators and employees. The results showed positive attitudes towards recycling.
