Abstract

Schwartz´s theory of human values identifies 10 different values thar are likely to be recognized in different countries and cultures. The objective of the present study is explore the values hierarchy in the adolescence and its application into educative contexts. 499 adolescents (12-18 years) completed the Personal Value Questionnaire (Cuestionario de Valores Personales). Results showed that Hedonism, Stimulation and Self-direction were the most important values for the adolescents, whereas Power and Achievement were the least important values. There were differences between the adolescents hierarchy obtained and the adults hierarchy obtained in previous research. Exploratory analysis revealed gender differences among the values hierarchy. The differences must be taken into account by educators of adolescents in different contexts (family, educational and social) to facilitate communication and scheduling to avoid the rejection of adolescents.
