Abstract

The construct of adaptive behavior has been becoming progressively important in the definition and classification of intellectual disability, mainly from the latest editions of the American Association of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD, 1992, 2002, 2010). It is also one of the criteria for the diagnosis of intellectual disability: “the existence before 18 years of significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior as expressed in conceptual adaptive skills, social and practical.” The adaptive behavior is one of the dimensions proposed (AAIDD, 2010) for classification with: intellectual functioning, health, participation in the context, and intensity and need for support. To measure this construct we have adequate evidence but the reality is that there is a shortage of these instruments in Castilian. This study analyzes the characteristics and behavior of the ABS-RC: 2 in a sample of 189 adults with intellectual disabilities, the results allow us to confirm that it is a useful and appropriate tool to assess adaptive behavior.
