The Askondo Cave is developed in Cretaceous recifal limestones of the Mañaria valley and it is part of the Aramotz hydrogeological unit karst system. The rectilinear geometry and the karstic features of the cave show a strong structural control on the phreatic and vadose phases of the karstification process. The endokarstic sedimentary sequence encloses archaeological levels and complementary paleoenvironmental data. A 7 metre-long core shows an alternance of detritic fluvial and chemical, speleothem, sediments that reflect cyclical hydrological variations affecting the cave that complete and contextualize the archaeological finds.
