Abstract
We analyse the response that the immigrant students have received from the Spanish Educational system, as for equal access, equal treatment and equal performance, social inclusion and family involvement. We searched the WoS, Scopus and Dialnet databases to read the recent papers published in Spanish indexed journals, the Aranzadi database to identify the educational legislation, and the OECD reports. Among the positive aspects we can highlight: the significant economic effort made to guarantee their compulsory free schooling, and the development of curricular and organizational measures. As to the negative points we can mention: risk of creating a dual education system; adoption of exclusively compensatory academic measures; poor academic performance, absenteeism, dropout and early incorporation into labour; difficulties in social inclusion; and low parental involvement in school life. These data may be useful for designing educational policies and practices more equitable and inclusive.
