Abstract

The present study, carried out in an institute of Secondary Education of the capital of Burgos, analyzes the physical self-concept of Physical Education students, attending to the factors of perceived competence, physical attractiveness, physical strength and self-confidence. 134 students from the four ESO courses participate, which are divided into two groups according to gender; 1- male group (71 students), 2- female group (63 students). All the students have participated in a Didactic Unit (UD) of physical condition, of 10 sessions, and given by the same teacher under a cooperative work methodology, performing a pre-test-posttest. The research methodology is quantitative, since both descriptive analysis (means and standard deviation for factors) and inferential analysis (ANOVAS) are used. It is observed how before the UD there were significant differences between genders (higher values in boys) in the factors physical strength and self-confidence. However, at the end of the UD, and although the values are still higher for the male group, gender differences are not reached. In addition, in the two groups, students who perform physical activity out of school have a greater motivation towards the developed UD.
