Abstract

When the Spanish Civil War was fi nished, Archaeology in Burgos was characterized by the shortage of diggers. Some of these excavations were made by local experts, although they did not reach anything of importance for future serious projects. The situation started to change at the beginning of the Francoís regime, when the fi rst important plans to do research were approved; however the most successful actions happened during the eighties. Also at this time, the Historic Spanish Heritages Law was developed in 1985, that not only changed the prevailing ideology, but it also caused the appearance of the Preventive Archaeology. The expansion of the Preventive Archaeology raised the number of excavations and especially in Burgos, it has become the mainstream of the archaeological concept. Meanwhile, during the last years of the nineties, some institutions have been promoting several investigations projects, such us the ones realised in Clunia or Atapuerca. These investments have become references for these institutions, and they are supporting most of the work that it has been done in our region.
