Abstract

This thesis examines the possible use of bottom ashes form thermal power plants of Aboño and Soto de Ribera in road construction. In the research work both ashes are characterized and evaluated its use in civil works, showing that it is possible to use in foundation, core and coronation. Since its a sandy material, no plasticity, and pozzolanic character, it also servers to improve plastics soils with low or no load-bearing capacity. In addition, the composition of silica-aluminous type, and the smaller size particles of ash of Soto de Ribera, enables activation with lime, allowing stabilize poor quality soils and providing some cohesion to granular materials, can be employed in the lower layers of the pavement. Research concludes recommending the use of ashes from bottom from thermal power plant in road construction, allowing to reduce the economic and environmental costs of their sent to landfill. In addition, they allow the improvement and stabilization of soil of poor quality from the own trace, so far despised in works by the high cost of its stabilization.
