Abstract

This Ph. D. Thesis addresses several issues of the vertical train-track dynamic interaction through mathematical models, from a probabilistic and functional point of view. Its purpose is to feature a highly representative and reliable description of such interaction, less subjected to the limitations of the previous available data which often affect the performance of the current computational tools. To achieve this goal, firstly different numerical models conveniently encoded in the time and frequency domain are proposed and validated. Their structure facilitates the introduction of the suspension system as a key factor to explain the dynamic response of the rolling stock. Then, the outcomes of a carefully planned sequence of simulations are compiled and analyzed. Thereby, on one side, it has been possible to determine the probability distributions that best fit the variability of the vertical dynamic behavior of the vehicles. In addition, several regression models between certain representative variables of such behavior and various vehicle characteristic building parameters have been adjusted. All these contributions can be novel and useful in the predictive assessment of many aspects within railway dynamics.
