Abstract

This research issues from the curiosity and interest of its author who intends to rebuild the development of the Normal School of Teaching of Santander, analyzing its genesis and evolution from its creation in 1844 to its integration into the University. There have taken on special prominence the printed sources from different institutions and archives, newspapers, images, audio visual and material as well as oral sources. For it he has make use of the historical-educational and comparative method, turning to analytical and quantitative methodologies. Pursuing a chronological model, the development of the Men’s School until 1915 is presented. When the activity of it ceases, the creation and set up of the Women’s School is considered. With the arrival of the Republic, the Normal Schools merge, dividing the two schools again after the war. We manage to see the development of the Normal School through this years and our investigation mean an important complementary contribution to the historical educational heritage.
