In view of the tightening by UNESCO about the conditions for accepting the nominations of wine‐growing regions to be part of the World Heritage List, it would be advisable to consider the required criteria for candidates to be included in the List. The objective is to examine the key factors and characteristics of the eight regions currently listed as members of the Cultural Heritage of Wine. Secondly, we try to establish the initial "patrimonial" conditions that any aspirant must meet: natural or landscape elements, such as relief, soils ... agronomic elements (vine varieties), cultural practices, constructed elements with vineyard functionality, intangible factors, etc. We also try to carry out a classification of the Spanish vineyard regions with a patrimonial value that allow us to make an approximation to regional scale.
