Resumen

The Quaternary geomorphological evolution of the fluvial valleys of the Cantabrian Margin is not well known. However, recent advances in dating techniques and obtaining high resolution topography have allowed qualitative advances in its knowledge. This work aims to reflect the state of the art in the framework of the investigation of the Cantabrian fluvial systems. The analysis of the high-resolution topographic data of river basins from Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia and Cantabria provinces has allowed us to identify a common record of potential terrace levels (NTPs) which denotes the presence of a common stratigraphic architecture. That stratigraphic architecture shows differences in the altitudinal distribution of the NTPs, indicating the presence of variations in the palaeoclimatic and/or tectonic processes that controlled the common evolution of the Cantabrian Margin fluvial basins
