Resumen

The foraminiferal assemblages recorded in the sedimentary successions of the Cantabrian estuaries have been palaeoenvironmentally interpreted allowing definition of the sedimentary infill as a depositional sequence within a fourth-order eustatic cycle (Holocene). These sedimentary sequences comprise a wide range of foraminiferal assemblage zones (FAZs) organized into three systems tracts: low sea-level conditions during Lateglacial (LST), a marine transgression (TST, 8500-3000 cal BP), and a stabilized high sea-level (HST, 3000 cal BP-20th century). Furthermore, high resolution analysis of recent marsh sequences allowed the development of a transfer function based on benthic foraminifera that produced an estimation of sea levelrise of 1,4 mm/yr for the period 1810-1997 (0,70 mm/yr during 1810-1930 and 3,30 mm/yr for 1930-1997).
