Abstract
A Didactic Innovation Proposal for working maps and cartographical concepts using free access Geographical Information Systems, and quality on-line chart viewers adapted to Middle School students, is presented in this work. This proposal uses a problembased learning methodology, being the students the ones who research and discover cartographic concepts through active and collaborative methodologies. The results obtained in a survey of assessment show that the students liked the new methodology as well as the use of on-line chart viewers and Geographical Information Systems but, as they are difficult to be used, they prefer not to use them again in class
