Abstract

Introduction: The patient's Safety Culture is related to the beliefs and attitudes assumed by professionals in their practice, to ensure that no unnecessary or potential harm associated with health care will be caused. Objectives: To determine the perception of Primary Care Nursing about the different dimensions of Patient Safety and to detect if the care burden and years of professional experience are factors that may interfere in the adoption of said culture. Methodology: Transversal descriptive study. Analyze the results of the questionnaire "Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture" (MOSPS) in its Spanish version. The questionnaire is aimed at nurses in the health area of Palencia Primary Care. For the analysis of results, the Excel tool of the Medical Office Survey on Patient Safety Culture (MOSPSC) is used for the primary care teams of the National Health System. Bivariate analysis is added with the independent variables age and number of Health Cards assigned considering p <0.05. The Synthetic Index of Patient Safety (ISSP) is calculated. The analysis is performed with the statistical package SPSS version 19.0. Results: We identified 11 strong areas in safety culture and highlight "the monitoring of patient care". With potential for improvement, "open communication" and "communication about error". There was no statistically significant relationship between safety culture and the variables age of the professionals and the number of cards assigned. The ISSP is 3.57. Conclusions: The fact of showing 11 strong areas and none weak in the analysis of positive responses by variables allows a suitable scenario to be reinforced and reveals the protagonist of the PC nursing professionals in the achievement of safe care.
