Abstract

The main question stimulating the thesis is what is the gender impact of the procedural rights enshrined in Directive 2012/29/EU? Applying mostly a qualitative methodology and an integrated gender approach or mainstreaming principle, the seven chapters that structure the thesis analyze the procedural rights of victims of gender-based violence in the European Union. Therefore, four main themes are interrelated: procedural rights, victimology, gender-based violence and the European Union. Part One (Chapters 1 and 2) focuses on the analysis of European judicial cooperation. Part Two (Chapters 3 and 4) analyses victimization and victimisation. Part Three (Chapters 5, 6 and 7) focuses on criminal and criminal procedural issues in relation to crimes of violence against women.
