Resumo

The presence of Burgos in the NO-DO [News and Documentaries, the state-controlled cinema newsreels of Francoist Spain] was related with the official visits of Franco, whose omnipresent figure appears linked to the ceremonies of the regime and its commemoration. The remarkable ideological component that characterized the news issued on the city during the first years of Francoism was based on constant reminders of its role as the capital of the crusade during the Civil War. Converted into a “place of remembrance”, its streets, squares and impressive monuments were the privileged scenario in which Franco could recall his days of glory during the conflict and indulge in appearances before extraordinarily large crowds.
