Resumen

We present the preliminary results of a paleomagnetic study in Mesozoic sediments of the Demnat-Skoura Culmination, in the Moroccan High Atlas. The magnetization of the Triassic and Jurassic studied series is dominated by a remagnetization with a very stable behavior and systematic normal polarity. We have calculated the characteristic direction of the remagnetization using the small circles method, the result obtained is D= 338.9º, I = 45.9º. Comparing this direction with the Global Apparent polar Wander Path (GAPWP) for Northern Africa we can assign a Cenomanian age (about 100 M.a.), similar to that obtained in other regions of the Central High Atlas. This work allows us to observe that most of the structures analyzed along the Demnat-Skoura Culmination profile are pre- Cenozoic and do not result from African-Eurasia compression. The absence of intrusions and Diapirism in this area, and the location of paleomagnetic sites at a structural level below, or lacking a regional décollement level of the Atlas revives the hypothesis of possible moderate deformations during the Middle Jurassic in Central Moroccan High Atlas.
