Résumé

The purpose of this work is to present and vindicate the important influence exerted by the Spanish patron José Nicolás de Azara in the configuration of the Greek characters of Giambattista Bodoni, simple and robust. From the letters they both exchanged, it is possible to extract many critical advices and comments of the Spanish diplomat, who –helped in Rome by his circle of learned scholars and his aesthetic friends– undoubtedly contributed to the improvement and rationalization of Bodoni’s Greek designs. The typographer, meanwhile, was able to attend, appreciate and appreciate the views of the Hispanic intellectual, aesthetic contribution that would be complemented by a remarkable substratum of classical models, a subject still pending in-depth study
