This research analyses the relationship between the evolution of the agricultural model and rural devitalisation, just at a time when depopulation is part of social concern and the post-2020 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is under debate. Its purpose is a critical review to the CAP, focusing on its re- gulatory lines and its translation into different scenarios (the case of Castilla y León in Spain), to illustrate its development and territorial consequences. It also aims to provide some ideas for a future policy where agriculture goes beyond its productive function and draws on its enormous potential to contribute to rural revitalisation. Different sources and methods have been used to achieve the objectives, particularly the statistical use and mapping of the beneficiaries of the EAGF and EAFRD funds. The results of this analysis show that the CAP has consolidated various categories of beneficiaries who have different approaches to agricultural activity, which has a direct impact on the demographic problems of the countryside.
