Abstract

Twenty isoxazoyl derivatives 1a-g and 2a-m were tested against six bacteria! species: Baci/Jus cereus, Staphyfucoccus aureus, Listeria spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp. and Escherichia coli, the results of the tests are reponed. The general structure of la-g was 1,3-di-(3-methyl-4-nitroisoxawl-5-yl)-2-arylpropane and the corresponding to 2a-m was 3-methyl-4-nitro-5-(2-arylvinyl)isoxawle. Five compounds tested show moderate antibacterial activity against Pseudomon11,s 11,eruginosJJ.. la was the most active compound, which prevents the growth of P. aeruginosa at 250 mg. litre·1. la and 2j show very low activity against S. aureus and Salmonella spp. respectively. Ali the compounds show no activity against the other three tested species.
