Abstract

Within the Project “Active Territories. Design and development of a Living Lab for the characterization and sustainable enhancement of innovative initiatives in rural areas of Castilla y León”, a territorialcharacterization is developed which permits a better understanding of the later on analysed activities. In their context. Following and adjusting previous methodologies, we proposed our own view based on time distance to urban municipalities potentially seen as service hubs. It is not, therefore, a use of new indicators or methods, although a specific combination has been sought that is better adapted to the objectives of the project and the specificity of the territorialcontext analysed. The current state of the work allows us to advance that the different rural areas of Castilla y León present some common problems, although not to the same degree, and that, apart from the specific resources of each territory, certain groups of challenges and potentialities can also be identified that affect the innovative initiatives that constitute the object of study of the project
