Résumé

The characterization of the mechanical properties of tubes in the hoop direction is of interest from both a scientific and an industrial point of view. Tubes manufactured without welding (seamless tubes) tend to show anisotropy in terms of their mechanical properties when considering the longitudinal and hoop directions. Different types of technological tests have been used, such as the expansion test or the tube-end flaring test, which have drawbacks when it comes to obtaining mechanical property values. This work addresses the applicability of the circumferential traction test of a ring obtained from the tube to be characterized (Ring Hoop Tension Testing-RHTT) with some simplifications in the tooling used. The aim is, on the one hand, of eliminating the need to manufacture a tool for each tube diameter and, on the other hand, of determining the influence of these changes when estimating the mechanical properties of interest. For this purpose, FEM numerical simulations have been performed and experimental tests have been carried out to obtain a vision of the possible difficulties that the application of the proposed methodology would present.
