Zusammenfassung

The goal of this paper is to test the hypothesis that the ownership structures (public limited companies and mutual insurance companies) are efficient mechanisms to alleviate the agency problems affecting Spanish insurance companies. The empirical study carried out on a group of 111 insurance companies and to this end we have applied mean difference tests. Our results would seem to show that Spanish insurance companies with different ownership structures are efficient mechanisms to alleviate agency problems.
