Abstract

The Santo Domingo range is located in the westernmost sector of the southern aragonian Pyrenees and has been recently declared Protected Landscape (Decreto 52/2015, 8 de Abril de 2015, del Gobierno de Aragón). From a geological point of view, it represents the outcrop of the Western Pyrenean sole thrust. The western end of the basal thrust is a large detachment anticline (Santo Domingo) trending WNW-ESE which folds previous Eocene structures during the Oligocene-Miocene. In this work we introduce an inventory of 17 points of geological interest (PGIs) and their corresponding explanatory cards, that provide geological information, easily accessible to the general public, aiming to promote the visits to the Sierra in order to know geological aspects: promote the geotourism. In addition, this inventory identifies the geological elements susceptible to be protected under further regulation and conservation actions.
