Abstract
In 1194 the Mozarabic couple Torque¬mada-Almíldez founded a Benedictine monastery in Tórtoles de Esgueva, protected from 1199 by the monarch Alfonso VIII and Pope Innocent III. It was a monastery founded and structured as exempt, a legal exception that kept it outside the jurisdiction of the bishop, with the civil and criminal jurisdiction of the town falling on its abbess, lady of the town. Through documentary sources, such as the Information of Carlos V (16th century) or the Ensenada Cadastre. As the Cadastre was a universal investigation, it also affected ecclesiastical institutions, which had to declare all their assets, income and expenses, as well as its members, if they had income or alienated real rights, present and copy of the documents proving such alienation.
