Abstract

The arrival of the Borbones in Spain was the starting signal for the development of a series of projects aimed at seeking a rationalization of administration and management. The basis of the entire process was in the correct management of the territory. And it is that, the weight of the space becomes very important in the century of Enlightenment, becoming a key piece of the reforms that were wanted to be introduced. An example of this is the momentum that municipalities are gaining as a new, or not so new, administrative division. Despite the clear need to have this type of institution, its implementation and development was not an easy path. Throughout the 18th century, important changes and transformations took place, making itpossible to clearly establish two great moments that divide this chronological period almost in half. As of 1749 and while the development of the Ensenada Cadastre lasts, they will have their greatest period of stability only broken by the fight between mayors and corregidores. Through this communication we seek to show all these milestones, discovering the reasons that caused them and the implications they had. Despite the global focus of the work, covering the entire crown of Castilla, we will take two areas as pilot spaces, the Salamanca municipality and the municipalities that operated in the Burgos territory.
