Abstract

This paper examines the significant impact of the Super League, an alternative competition to the current structure led by UEFA, which has caused in the legal and sports arenas. The history of the Super League, a recurring project for almost three decades, and its role in the evaluation by the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) regarding the regulations of FIFA and UEFA are explored. The judicial trajectory leading to the notable judgment on December 21, 2023, is analyzed, where the CJEU identifies an abuse of dominant position and a violation of Articles 101 and 102 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) by both football organizing associations. This research sheds light on the legal implications and evolution of the Super League in the European and sports context.
