Abstract

The perception of quality of life depends on a set of personal, social, health and educational factors. Several studies suggested that education can make a difference, through schooling and education is acquired more knowledge , more information favoring the practice of healthy lifestyles, thus contributing to the welfare of the quality of life and a positive aging. Therefore it has proposed a cross-sectional study in which they analyzed the quality of life of older persons in relation to the level of studies achieved. We studied a sample of 200 people aged between 65 and 87 years living in Spain and Portugal. Quality of life was analyzed through the Spanish or Portuguese version of the WHOQOL-BREF and the results have been analyzed in relation to age, sex and level of educational attainment. The sample showed significant differences in relation to the level of schooling, indicating higher levels in the Spanish population. Analyzed the relationship of schooling variable quality of life differences between the two samples are beconing significant especially in the domain of physical quality of life. The results show that the educational level throughout life is related to the quality of life of older people. Therefore, it is necessary to design actions that promote lifelong learning throughout life to increasing the number of educational level of all persons, regardless of what they acconplished in their initial training
