Abstract

The research study «Quality of Life and Education for elders: the influence of University Programs for Seniors in maintaining quality of life. A longitudinal Analysis» is geared towards studying the group of people over 60 who participate in a university program for seniors, with the aim of discovering how influences their intellectual and personal development on the one hand and their quality of life on the other hand. The methodology used to carry out this research was based on three core axes. In the first place, CUBRECAVI, a standardized and validated instrument for measuring quality of life within this specific group that enabled us to obtain an assessment of how this group values their own quality of life at the beginning of the program and after the end of the training process. In addition, some associated factors that have a positive influence on quality of life, such as the "social network" and "ICT", were taken into consideration, through questionnaires. Secondly, in order to ascertain the contributions of the professionals who are directly involved in this type of program, a Delphi Panel and a SWOT was carried out. And finally, with a view to understanding the firsthand experience of the subjects, the "life stories" of a selection of students were compiled, as well as a SWOT with the same group. In this way, relevant data and information were obtained from three important sources involved in the training process, using different methodologies to obtain this information. One of the conclusions, which can be highlighted on a general level is that the participation of elderly people in this type of university educational programs, specifically for them, encourages active and positive aging, with benefits being observed in both maintaining and improving the perception of quality of life.
