Zusammenfassung
Pedro Fernández de Villegas, archdeacon of Burgos, was one of the most relevant figures of the Burgos Cathedral Chapter at the beginning of the sixteenth century. Knowledge of his life is due to his literary work and the fact that his tomb is located in said Cathedral in Burgos, even though his ancestry has not been clearly identified. In this piece, we aim to delve deeper into his family, social, political, and even cultural context. Son of Fernando de Covarrubias, Chief Clerk of Burgos, he belonged to a distinguished lineage from the village of the same name and with a long presence in the Church. Connections with the Villegas family and with the Ruiz de la Mota kinfolk, helped to strengthen the multiple ties between his family and figures of the ‘Regimiento’ Closed Council in Burgos, the Constables of Castile, and the King himself.
