CAYPAT es un grupo de investigación interdisciplinar, reconocido por la Universidad de Burgos y formado por expertos de campos distintos e interconectados (Comunicación Audiovisual, Sociología, Periodismo, Historia, Historia del Arte). Su línea de investigación se centra en temas relacionados con la Comunicación y el Patrimonio tanto material como inmaterial, en especial en la región de Burgos. Se orienta al estudio de los objetos y fenómenos culturales, del patrimonio histórico y artístico, incidiendo especialmente en el papel de los medios de comunicación (prensa, cine, teatro, televisión, soportes on line…). Medios de comunicación que son en sí mismos objetos culturales y que también pueden ser utilizados como fuentes para analizar otras realidades de patrimonio. Es importante destacar como en sus investigaciones se incorpora la perspectiva de género. CAYPAT está muy comprometido con la transferencia del conocimiento. De ahí que uno de sus objetivos principales sea el de divulgar y comunicar el patrimonio, sobre todo regional. Para ello el uso de las técnicas audiovisuales y de las nuevas tecnologías, como la realidad virtual y el modelado 3D son algunas de sus señas de identidad. Integrado por académicos y profesionales del área de Comunicación Audiovisual y Humanidades,está coordinado por la profesora Mar Chicharro Merayo.
