Estrés oxidativo en el infarto cerebral

Resumen

Diferentes estudios se centran en los posibles mecanismos de protección de compuestos fenólicos en las enfermedades neurodegenerativas y en la muerte neuronal celular, ya que parece que muchos de estos compuestos pueden reducir la degeneración neuronal inducida por la isquemia y el deficit neurológico. En este trabajo se presenta una revisión bibliográfica de las implicaciones del ácido 3-cafeoilquinico (ácido clorogénico), en el infarto cerebral. Este compuesto fenólico esta presente en distintos alimentos de origen vegetal, siendo uno de los compuestos que más contribuye a la capacidad antioxidante del café. El ácido clorogénico puede producir efectos beneficiosos a través de múltiples mecanismos de acción, entre ellos incrementando los niveles de oxido nítrico en plasma, regulando así la hipertensión, que es uno de los principales factores de riesgo en el ictus y en enfermedades cardiovasculares.
