Antioxidantes naturales y quimioterapia antitumoral

Resumen

El cáncer y la terapia contra el cáncer, están asociadas con el estrés oxidativo y con desordenes en el balance del sistema antioxidante, esto podría estar implicado en la toxicidad y en los efectos secundarios asociados al tratamiento con agentes antineoplásicos. En este trabajo se presenta una revisión bibliográfica del efecto de los antioxidantes en el tratamiento quimioterapéutico contra el cáncer. Algunos estudios sugieren que suplementar la dieta con antioxidantes puede influir positivamente en la respuesta a la quimioterapia, previniendo el daño oxidativo generado por el tratamiento, evitar el desarrollo de efectos adversos, incrementando la eficacia del mismo. Otros estudios muestran resultados negativos en la utilización de antioxidantes durante la quimioterapia ya que pueden interferir con el mecanismo de acción de los agentes terapéuticos disminuyendo su eficacia.
