Sustainable Construction Research Group

The main line of research in this group is the reuse of steel slags in the construction sector. Many applications of such slags have been developed in mortars, structural concretes, concrete pavements, self-compacting concretes and bituminous mixtures. In this topic, there are several PhD Thesis defended, numerous research articles published in indexed journals of worldwide prestige, presentations at international conferences and patents, what gives the work of the research group a national and international recognition. In addition, there are other lines of research related to the reuse of construction and demolition waste (C&D) and to structural behavior, both in buildings and civil works. The JCyL (Regional Government) recognizes the group as a consolidated research unit (UIC No. 231). Currently, both a Research Project funded by JCyl (Regional Ministry) and a European Project are being developed. The group is part of an International Consortium of four European Public Universities (two Spanish, one Italian and one Greek) and two companies (one Greek and one Belgian), in the field of the steel slag. In addition, there is a line of work with companies, which is reflected in research contracts and activities to transfer knowledge or technology to the productive sector.
