Doctor by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with the thesis Nuevas poli(eter amida)s Alifático-aromáticas Síntesis, caracterización y estudio de propiedades 1996. Supervised by Dr. José G. de la Campa, Dr. Javier de Abajo.

After obtaining my degree in Chemistry from the University of Valladolid (1991), I joined the Polymer Science and Technology Institute (CSIC) as a predoctoral fellow, obtaining the title of Doctor in CC. Chemistry by the U. Complutense (1995). I then carried out a one-year post-doctoral stay at a water treatment company (Grupo PRIDESA, program for the incorporation of doctors into companies -Ministry of Education-), working on developing polymeric membranes, after which I was hired by the department of R&D of another group company. During my time at the company, I requested and managed various research projects financed by both the Basque Government and the Central Government. While working, the opportunity arose for me to join the University of Burgos (UBU) in 1998. In 2003 I obtained the position of Full Professor, and in 2011 that of Professor. Experience in the field of management in the company assigned me to create a research group, Polymer Research Group, from the beginning of my arrival at the UBU, which began to consolidate with the request and granting of my first regional project in the year of my incorporation, although the definitive accolade was the granting of one within the framework of the National Materials Plan, in 2001, which, although modest, meant the beginning of the chain of others until the last ones, which ends in December 2020, and which together with the real autonomic totals €241 k. At the same time, since my work in the start-up of the Group, I have not neglected the relationship with companies, producing a significant number of projects financed by them (€1M executed, €250K in the last 2 years), of which one significant part corresponds to foreign companies. About applied research, I registered 20 patents in the last 10 years, 3 PCT, one of them international sold to the Chinese company First Jet International LTD, and two licensed to Chameleon Sensors S.L. and to 50 Dollar Drafting Inc. I have also published +120 articles in the best journals in their category (84% in the 1st third), 36 of them since 2015 with this profile, and several are in the first position of the corresponding catalogue, both specific to polymers and materials and of general chemistry, among which are some written by invitation. In recent years, the journal Chemistry World, of the RSC, has written several reports on two of our articles, the last one at the end of 2016 entitled "Glowing polymer highlights mercury in fish" highlighting the novelty and quality of our research; in addition, the RSC itself has used another article for its university-level chemistry education website. On the other hand, the RSC recognizes me (2016) as the top 10% of highly cited authors in our portfolio of General Chemistry journals”. In the field of research management, I am an evaluator for ANEP and was part of the commissions of the corresponding Ministry for the selection of projects and researchers. I am currently Vice-rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer at the UBU, vice-president of the BUCLE Consortium of the Universities of Castilla y León, and a member of the Governing Council of the Singular Scientific-Technical Facility CENIEH (MINECO).
