GIEC es un grupo de investigación en el área de enseñanza de las ciencias en el que participan investigadores de las Universidades de Burgos (España), Federal de Río Grande do Sul y Pontifica de Porto Alegre (Brasil) y Nacional de Tucumán (Argentina). El foco de interés del grupo está centrado en conocer y comprender los procesos cognitivos de los estudiantes durante el aprendizaje de conocimientos científicos, así como el diseño e implementación de estrategias y recursos didácticos para promover el aprendizaje significativo considerando recientes soportes teóricos, epistemológicos y metodológicos.
